SIAM NOVAS Co. Ltd

Siam Novas Co. Ltd. evolved out of the Immunology & Reproductive Physiology Research Unit (IRPR), Department of Animal Science, Faculty of Agriculture, at Chiang Mai University in northern Thailand. This research unit was managed by Assoc. Prof. Petai Pongpiachan. His team included Assist. Prof. Dr. Korawan Sringarm and Assist. Prof. Dr. Wiwat Pattanawong, who were both his former graduate students and research assistants, plus other graduates who took part in the research projects run by the IRPR. At this stage, it is evident that from the experiments with 943 cows, the ratio to produce a female calf is in the range of 71 – 80 %, which is satisfactory commercially. This technology is, therefore, ready to be exploited in both domestic and international markets. The estimated word demand for frozen semen is over 300 mn dosages per year, which is worth more than 90 bn Bath.

Biography:
Assoc. Prof. Petai Pongpiachan expertise is in Animal Reproduction, Endocrinology and Immunology and Genetics, and Community-based research. He headed the Research and Immunology & Reproductive Physiology Research Unit (IRPR), at the Department of Animal Science, Faculty of Agriculture, Chiang Mai University in northern Thailand. For over thirty years, his scientific research focused on improving reproductive efficiency; antibody production against hormone for radioimmunoassay; and hormonal oestrous synchronization technique. In the last fifteen years, he has carried on extensive research in monoclonal antibody production against the progesterone hormone, examining the effects of the addition of oxytocin to semen to improve the number of piglets, and the production of monoclonal antibodies against a specific antigen on the cell membrane of bovine spermatozoa. Through his research and expertise, Assoc. Prof. Petai Pongpiachan, Assistant Dr. Wiwat Pattanawong, and Assistant Dr. Korawon Sringarm developed the innovative technology to create a “Gender-Biased Frozen Semen”. He received a Purina Outstanding Research Award (2004) from the Asian-Australasian Journal of Animal Science, a Poster Award from Agricultural Biotechnology for Better Living and a Clean Environment (ABIC) in 2009, Best Incubatee Thai-BISPA Award (2016) from the Thai Business Incubators and Science Parks Association, 2016 AABI Torch Award for Technology Transfer from The Asian Association of Business Incubation (AABI) and Grand Prize, in Seoul International Invention Fair 2016, from the Korea Invention Promotion Association.
